The ‘No Frills’ Flower Challenge
Find your creative spark between the coffee and carnations.
No fancy stems, or luxury blooms—just whatever’s at your local grocery store. Find inspiration in the aisles during your next grocery run and create something unique, interesting and beautiful.
First of all, this challenge is not affiliate with No Frills Supermarkets - just to clarify right off the bat!
This (FREE) challenge is all about making creating with flowers accessible, even in the midst of our busy lives. We’ll keep it really simple, working with grocery store flowers (and sometimes fruit or veggies!) to create uncomplicated, simple and whimsical designs.
Over six weeks, you’ll receive a weekly prompt to help stretch your creative muscle while working with what’s right in front of you—on your next grocery run.
No frills, no fuss, just a creative practice in the midst of your weekly to-do’s.
Each week, you’ll receive a creative prompt to work on a floral design using only items you can find at your local grocery store. Whether it’s a bunch or few of supermarket flowers or an unexpected mix of fruit and veggies, you’ll learn to see what’s in front of you as a tool for creativity, and get yourself thinking outside the box.
No need for fancy supplies or expensive blooms—just you, your imagination, and the flowers and materials you find on your grocery run.
Receive a weekly prompt for a creative floral challenge. (something different each week, based on the principles of design.)
Get design tips and reflection prompts each week.
Use simple flowers or whatever else you find in the store (like fruit!).
Share your creations and get tips to improve your designs.
Build your creative muscle without breaking the bank.
Put a lil spark in your to-do list.
Let’s face it. Time is something we usually feel we don’t have enough of to ‘play’. We really want to carve out pockets of time for various projects that nurture our creativity, but struggle to actually do it. There are usually other things that sit at the top of the priority list, and creative expression and exploration ends up at the bottom, if it makes the cut at all.
Cue the No Frills Flower Challenge - tucking a sneaky creative practice into your weekly to-do list.
This challenge encourages you to look creatively at what’s available to you while you complete a weekly task you’d be doing anyway - grocery shopping.
It’s a way to romanticize a weekly chore, while also exercising your creativity and finding ways to think outside the box with a typically limited grocery store flower selection.
As a new mom myself, I am finding it really tricky to carve out time for creativity, but I’ve made it my mission and priority to keep that part of myself alive and thriving in the throes of motherhood. While it’s a challenge, it’s definitely worth the effort.
I’ve started doing this ‘challenge’ myself and thought it would be fun to share in the experience with you.
I’m a big believer in intentionally making time for creating - whatever form that takes. Whenever I carve out the time to design with flowers, I’m reminded how meditative and grounding it can be.
This challenge offers you the chance to slow down, check in with yourself, and get creative in a no-pressure, playful way.
The No Frills Flower Challenge helps you break free from the pressures of "perfect" designs and learn to appreciate the simplicity and creativity of everyday flowers, practicing the art of attention, intention and playfulness. Plus, you’ll pick up some design tips and tricks along the way.
This is a great fit for anyone who wants to:
Practice mindful creativity: Embrace the art of slow, intentional design.
Work within limitations: Having limitations around what materials we use can often help us to find and make beauty with the basics. (Or Food Basics, hehe!).
Fit design into your routine: Create art without a huge time commitment—just your regular grocery run, using whatever budget you’re comfy with. (And of course, taking the time it takes to get creative, making your arrangement.)
Q: What does it cost?
A: The challenge itself is totally free. You’ll receive all tips, tricks, reflections and creative prompts as part of the deal! How much you spend on product is totally up to you and what you’re comfortable with.
Q: What materials do I need for this challenge?
A: You’ll need to purchase basic flowers from whatever grocery store you shop at. The goal is to create with what’s available to you, so there's no need for fancy supplies. Having something like a pin frog and sheers is a bonus, but not necessary. You will need a jar, vase or vessel to arrange the flowers in.
Q: Do I need experience with floral design?
A: Not at all! This challenge is for anyone—whether you're a beginner or have been designing for years, the goal is to have fun and experiment and carve out time in your busy schedule for playfulness and creative expression.
Q: How long does the challenge last?
A: The challenge lasts for 6 weeks. Each week, you'll receive a new prompt along with reflections and design tips to guide your creative process. I’ll be doing the challenge along with you!
